Tomahawk attack in Stoke

Two men will appear in the Nelson District Court facing charges relating to an assault at a property in Karaka Street, Stoke, yesterday.

Police were first alerted by members of the public to a man with a small axe on the Railway Reserve. As Police were responding to that a call came from the hospital that they were treating a man who said he had been assaulted and made reference to a tomahawk.

The victim suffered bruising and grazes to his face and head.

The man on the Railway Reserve was located and arrested and a tomahawk was recovered. Enquiries established the two events were linked and a second man involved in the assault was located at a Tahunanui address this morning.  Both men have been charged with injuring with intent to injure and other charges are likely.

The 21 year old Nelson man and a 27 year old Nelson man will appear in the Nelson District Court today.
