A home located on the banks of the Maitai River has come away with the supreme renovation award at the local Master Builders House of the Year awards.
The home, renovated by Jason Gardiner Builders Limited, won the title for a complex renovation that required a high level of care and skill to carry out, according to judges.
The house was redesigned with a partial demolition and new foundations, floor and walls.
New internal stairs and steel beams were needed to provide support for the upper deck and bracing.
Windows were well positioned to maximise the winter sun and make the most of the river views.
“The renovation has been so well done that it is hard to see what was existing and what is new,” judges said.
“The finished result is beautiful.”
Salter Builders Limited won the Altus Window Systems New Home $750,000 – $1 million category.
Its four-bedroom house is set into the hillside in Wakapuaka with steps that lead down from the entry to the open plan living area. It also has wide views of Tasman Bay.
“Polished concrete floors are beautifully finished and create a heat sink for the sun from the north-facing windows,” judges said.
“Birch ply ceilings and the living room joinery have been fitted with precision. The kitchen is a hub of this home and is very functional. The spectacular tiled splashback is beautifully fitted.”
