Youth shows return for school holiday break

Youth theatre is officially back in business with two show coming to the Theatre Royal for the school holidays.

The Nelson Youth Theatre Company kicks off their runs of ‘All Shook Up’ and ‘Annie JR’ next week.

‘All Shook Up’ will be performed by the company’s seniors and runs from Monday 28 September until Saturday 3 October with all shows at 7pm.

Set in 1955, at the dawn of the rock ‘n’ roll era, it features the music of Elvis Presley and “a script that’s packed to the seams with comic one liners” according to director Richard Carruthers.

‘Annie JR’ – one of the world’s best-loved and award-winning musicals – features more of the younger members of the crew and runs from Tuesday 29 September until Sunday 4 October with all shows at 2pm.

The well-known story follows orphan Annie who manages to charm everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City.

Richard says, at only an hour long, it is the perfect show to introduce young children to the world of theatre.

Tickets for both shows are available from or the Theatre Royal box office.
