Car Company cash up for grabs

Deserving organisations in the Nelson region have the chance to drive away with some much needed cash thanks to the Car Company’s Charity Drive.

The initiative, which launched yesterday, sees $10,000 up for grabs for organisations who apply through the Car Company’s website.

“We get approached daily for sponsorship but we only tend to get people who are aware of us,” says owner Shane Drummond.

“I wanted to turn it around and say ‘we have the money, you tell us why you should have it’.”

The idea was to get people who would not usually approach them.

Shane says the majority of their customer base comes from the community.

“We are really strong on giving back. We are all locals that are passionate about our community.”

Last year they had over 60 applications with Helping Families Nelson receiving the biggest award of $4500.

Other winners were Nelson Lawn Tennis Club, Nelson Whakatu MenzShed, Volunteer Nelson and Whakatu Riding for the Disabled.

Application forms are available at www.carcompanynelson.co.nz from March 4, or at Car Company branches in Nelson, Richmond and Tahunanui and close on April 6.

Shane says it is overwhelming to see what amazing people we have in our community that give their time tirelessly, and in most cases, at a voluntary capacity.
