Tahunanui is in need of a rebrand and the best way to do that is to let people know when they are passing through it.
That’s the goal of a project to get new signs on Rocks Rd and the corner of Tahunanui Drive and Parkers Rd.
“The idea is that we need to give the area a bit more of an identity,” says Tahunanui Business Association chair Paul Matheson. “We need to show the place exists and it contributes heaps to Nelson.”

The idea hasn’t been kicking around long but already they have approval from NZTA to put the signs up. Now it just needs Nelson City Council approval.
“People will get a good view of it and it won’t disrupt traffic,” Paul says. [The business association] all think it’s great. Most places have got them so why don’t we?”
Paul is hopeful that council will push through its approval soon and then the association will hand ownership over to council for the signs’ upkeep.
“We are thinking ‘why didn’t we do this before’.”
