Locals band together for breast cancer

A church may seem like a usual location for a catwalk, but next week’s fundraiser fashion show at Christ Church Cathedral is all for a good cause.

‘Couture at the Cathedral’ will be raising funds for the Nelson Tasman Regional Breast and Gynaecological Cancer Trust (NRBGCT) next Wednesday.

The trust aims to raise money to benefit breast and gynaecological cancer patients and their families throughout the Top of the South.

Over the last three years Morrison Square has led the fundraising crusade, raising more than $65,000.

Manager Angela Leonard says the funds have gone towards the new breast sentinel node probe for Nelson Hospital, after care treatment education and exercises classes for patients, and providing patients with items that help them remain comfortable while receiving treatments.

“It also offers financial help to patients for things like wigs, travel requirements and home care assistance.”

This year, they hope to raise more than $20,000, which will help with continued support for patients and the trust.

Angela says they wanted to “go a little bigger” than the previous high teas and movie nights.

The fashion show will feature bubbles and canapes on arrival, and guests will be treated to a fashion show featuring retailers from Morrison Square and Shine as well as goodie bags and a charity auction.

Angela says the event wouldn’t be possible without key sponsors, including Morrison Square, WildTomato, Bowater Hyundai, Olive Estate, Hamish Fletcher, Bidfood, The Breeze and Life Pharmacy Prices.

‘Couture at the Cathedral’ is on Wednesday 16 October, 6:30 – 8:30pm at Christ Church Cathedral. Tickets are $65 each, VIP $80 and can be purchased from the Morrison Square office or email [email protected]
