Nelson’s biggest music festival has announced its first major line-up of artists for the 2020 edition.
Tyler, the Creator will headline the second annual Bay Dreams South on January 4 with a slew of international supporting artists.
The festival will mark the rapper’s first visit to New Zealand in over five years, performing off the back of his critically acclaimed new album Igor. He was controversially banned from performing in New Zealand in 2014 when he was deemed “a threat or risk to public order or the public interest”.
He will be joined by British grime MC Skepta, American rapper Yelawolf, and Ella Mai, perhaps best known for her hit “boo-ed up.”
Other big hitters on the first line-up announcement include Ocean Alley, Netsky, Mitch James, Gunna and Sub Focus.
Also confirmed are IAMDDB, Shoreline Mafia, Winston Surfshirt, Sons of Zion, Sub Focus, Friction, Sasasas, Dimension, Kings of the Rollers, Flux Pavilion, Tones and I, Golden Features, Holy Goof, Benny L, Dirtyphonics, UZ, Trei, K+Lab and Flowidus in the first line-up announcement.
Kiwi favourites Shapeshifter are also set to make another appearance as the pre-party entertainment on January 3.
They will be joined by Kings of the Rollers, The Upbeats and Sunshine Soundsystem with more to be announced.
Both events in early 2019 sold out and proved to be a phenomenal success, making Bay Dreams officially New Zealand’s largest and most popular festival.
“Our entire team is really excited to be bringing Bay Dreams back to Nelson,” says festival director, Toby Burrows.
“After the amazing success of the festival’s launch into the South Island earlier this year, we have been heavily focused on building on that success and delivering the highest quality, international standard festival we possibly can.”
With Bay Dreams continuing to sell out year-after-year, it is expected that tickets for both The Mount and Nelson events will be in hot demand, so punters hoping to secure their spots at New Zealand’s biggest day in the music calendar are advised to get in quickly.
