Nelson kids got colourful to raise money for a young girl fighting cancer on Sunday.

Hundreds turned out for the Colour Craze Fun Run at Tahunanui Sports field.

Participants chose to run 1km, 3km or 5km around the field to raise money for Emma’s Army – a group set up to raise funds for the family of Emma Guyer who has recently been diagnosed with her third tumour.

As they began their run, participants were hosed down by local firefighters at the start line.

Then they were doused with coloured powder by eager volunteers who were stationed around the course.

As they crossed the finish line, the final green powder was thrown at the already rainbow-coloured runners.

The fun-run was followed by a Colombian dance demonstration and a colour dance party, in which participants could purchase their own colour bags to throw at each other.

The day was a collaborative effort by Multicultural Nelson Tasman, Girl Guides, Volunteer Nelson and Sport Tasman.

Riley Perrott is about to turn 11 so decided to have his birthday party at the fun-run.

He, along with a group of his friends, ran the 3km course and were front and centre at the dance party.
