A convoy of more than 50 Alfa Romeos rolled into Nelson on Saturday.

Enthusiasts of the Italian car came from across the country for the annual meet of the Alfa Romeo New Zealand Owners Club, the first in Nelson since 1985. The convoy of cars included Alfa’s from the 60s through to the latest models.

Club members Steve Fitzsimons, Andrew Hunt, Bill Ritchie, Bruce Stewart and Ron Smith are self-described Alfa ‘nutcases’ and say everyone loves the brand for different reasons.

“It’s just not an ordinary car,” Bill says.

Ron says the cars simply drive differently. “The car talks to you, it is built with passion.”

“They have the personality of a loud Italian,” Steve says.

Bruce says they are not just aesthetically attractive but are built like a dream.
