The fifth annual Festival of Golf saw hundreds of golfers hit the links in Nelson last week.
The festival included tournaments at Nelson, Motueka and Greenacres Golf Clubs.

Tournament committee member Jeane Drysdale says the event has become a highlight on many golfers’ calendars.

“We have 38 clubs represented from Otago to Auckland and everywhere in-between,” she says.

Jeane says the tournament is geared toward retirees and couples.
The 120 players ranged from 30 to 70 -years-old.

A car was on offer for anyone who could hit a hole in one on the 17th, unfortunately, nobody could.

Jeane says the closest someone has come over the years is about half a foot.

A number of golfers have appeared at every festival since its inception. Many come from outside the region such as Phillip Houng Lee and his wife Lena from Auckland.

“We come here to enjoy some good company, good food and good golf,” says Philip.

The Titirangi Golf Club members say the tournament is run very well and having beautiful courses and weather is a bonus.

Both were playing off a 15 handicap but say their game had been a bit off during the week.

“We haven’t done as well as we’d hoped, but it’s not about winning.”
