New market for New Street

New Street is soon to be the proud owner of a brand-new indoor market space.

The New Street Market is the brain child of commercial property managers Aurora August, Gill Ireland and building owner, Tony Vining.

Aurora says the market will be an eclectic mix of street food, local produce and locally made giftware, that will develop its own style and character.

“It will be a place to meet, to hang out and just enjoy the space.”

“We’ve all seen industrial look indoor spaces in other places that we’ve really enjoyed, but we have nothing like it here.”

“Thinking about the community, the type of people that live in Nelson, it just seems to fit, people love supporting locals and they love local produce.”

Bi-fold doors will open-up into an industrial space housing 18 different stalls with a café and communal indoor seating for market-goers to enjoy the large log-fire.

An internal door gives access to The Workshop Nelson for those wanting an alcoholic beverage.

Aurora says the finer details, such as opening hours, will need to be figured out a little closer to the time.

“We’ve been working on the foundational stuff, the layout, making sure we have the right people here, the rest will come as we progress.

They are hoping the market will be open by August/September.

“We started talking about it well over a year ago and now we’re at the stage where we can sign people up, it’s really exciting.”
