A Nelson City Council contractor has come under fire for an embarrassing pathway marking blunder in Atawhai, which will be re-done at no cost to ratepayers.
A concerned resident took photos of the dodgy line work on the Atawhai Crescent shared pathway, which show freshly white lines painted over grass, dirt and leaves.
“I walked for about 500m and I would say about one-third of the paint for those white lines is wasted. There is no doubt they will need to do repaint again very soon…feeling gutted,” they told Nelson Weekly.
Alec Louverdis, group manager infrastructure at the council, says they have been made aware of the issue and have already raised it with the contractors involved. The contractor is Downer, which did not respond to a request for comment.
“This standard of work is unacceptable and certainly not of a standard expected of any of our contractors,” says Alec.
“This has been clearly conveyed to the contractor who will be re-painting these areas at their own cost with urgency. There will be no extra cost to council or ratepayers at all.”
He says that he expects the contractor to evaluate their processes to ensure that this does not happen again.
