High tea and fashion show to raise funds for cancer

An afternoon of high tea, fashion, fun and discounted shopping is coming to Morrison Square this week – all to help gynaecological and breast cancer patients in Nelson.

The fundraising event is aiming to raise money for the Nelson Regional Breast and Gynaecological Trust, and Morrison Square manager Angela Leonard says tickets are selling fast.

“We only have 50 tickets left out of 150 – lots of people are buying tables and making it an extended lunch break.”

It is the second year that Morrison Square has run the event, which last year raised $26, 471 to help buy a sentinel node probe that allows doctors to assess the spread of breast cancer.

Angela says they have had “amazing” support from local businesses, who have donated food, money and their time.

“This event wouldn’t be possible without them.”

Some “well-known” local business people will be strutting their stuff as fashion models and there will also be a charity auction, guest speakers and goodie bags.

“It will be a really fun and relaxed atmosphere,” adds Angela. “I think that everyone has been touched by some kind of cancer, and it is great we can keep this money in the region to support this cause. We are proud to support these guys – long may it continue.”

The High Tea and Fashion Show on Morrison will be held on Thursday November 9 from 12:30pm – 2:30pm.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from Morrison Square Centre Management Office (above Morri St Cafe).
