Users of the Nelson App are getting more and more information at their fingertips after two more major Nelson organisations signed up this month.

Nelson Marlborough District Health Board and the Nelson Regional Development Agency are both now on the app giving users information about local health services and tourists information about our i-Site.

They join Nelson City Council, Sport Tasman and Nelson Airport who, along with 250 local businesses, advertise on the app.

NMDHB communications manager Stephanie Gray says it was a no-brainer to join.

“There are some really important health services that we’d like everyone in our region to know about, such as free dental care for children and teenagers, and free quit-smoking programmes. The Nelson App is a new, appealing way to reach people, alongside our usual advertising and promotion.”

Managing Director of the Nelson App, Andrew Board, says 7000 Nelsonians now have the app downloaded on their phone.

“We’re still getting daily messages from users or advertisers saying they have just downloaded it and love it.”

He says more information is being added every week including sporting events, free activities for kids and an up-to-the-minute link to the latest power outages.

“The app is always evolving and we’re also keen to hear from people about what they’d like in it, too. We want it to be for all Nelsonians.”

He says the most popular section is the local news and sport.

“We see a huge spike when there are big news stories, that’s often because we’re the first to break the story.”
