Nelson App proves popular

Two months in and the Nelson App has already proven itself to be popular with Nelsonians.

The app was launched last month and made an immediate impact, as the country’s fourth most downloaded news app for most of its first week.

The only apps to beat it were national or international apps, like BBC and New Zealand Herald.

Seven weeks on and the app has racked up close to 5000 downloads and now has a staggering 150-odd businesses advertising on it every week.

The app features news, sport, weather, things to do, movie and theatre listings, trades and services, restaurants and pubs, a gig guide, real estate, health and beauty, a kids corner, flight information, maps of the region’s mountainbike tracks, walking tracks and cycle ways and much more.

Managing Director of the locally-owned Nelson App, Andrew Board, says it’s perfect for locals as well as visitors to the region.

“We wanted to make it an app for locals first and foremost, it had to have things that would enrich locals’ lives. Then we looked at what visitors would like to see, basically something that would act as a portal for all of Nelson and Tasman,” he says.

“And so far the feedback has been phenomenal. People tell us they love it, so we’re delighted.”

Andrew says the Nelson App isn’t the first of its kind, with sister apps in Wanaka and Central Otago with another due to launch soon in Ashburton.

“Hopefully we’ll see an app like this in every city and town of the South Island so when you travel to a new place you simply need to download their ap. It’s so easy for people to use and gives you all the information you need in one place.”

The Nelson App is free to download and is available for anyone with a smartphone. You simply need to click here and follow the prompts.
