Love is in the Nelson air

Nelson’s newest theatre company is proving that sometimes love isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Nelson Theatrix will be performing its revue style concert ‘Love in the Spotlight’ at the end of July at the Theatre Royal.

A cast of seven singers and a band of five will take audiences on a journey through the different stages of falling in love – from happiness to heartbreak.

It will feature 21 songs, ranging from classical to contemporary musical theatre.

These include West Side Story, Chess, Into the Woods, Company, Beauty and the Beast, Hairspray, Dear Evan Hansen and more.

The show’s creator, Jessica D’Ath, says she is thrilled to be able to bring the show to Nelson audiences, particularly with such a professional cast and crew. “There is so much talent in Nelson, and we have got to support these people to be able to perform in shows that really show off what they can do. Love in the Spotlight is definitely going to do just that.

“Audiences can expect some super-glam, lavish costumes and it’s also a really affordable show. We want to make sure that theatre in Nelson is accessible to everyone.”

Nelson Theatrix is a relatively new theatre company to Nelson, forming in early 2016.

After their well received inaugural show ‘Wicked Women of the Stage’ they have performed a Halloween Cabaret, Broadway Unplugged and, most recently, a highly successful run of Fiddler on the Roof.

Love in the Spotlight is on at the Theatre Royal for three shows on July 28 and 29. Tickets start at $13 for children and $20 for adults, and are available from the Theatre Royal or www.ticketdirect.co.nz
