Helicopters roared as they took off and children dressed as mini choppers buzzed around the hangar at the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Open Day on Sunday.
The annual open day drew a crowd of around 3000 people and Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust’s general manager Paula Muddle couldn’t be happier.
“It was a great day, everyone enjoyed our winch display, the costume competition was insane, and a lot of people took the opportunity to come up to our crew and personally thank them, which was really good to see.”
The day acted as a show case for the region’s emergency services whilst also being a fundraiser for the trust.
“The Marlborough Ulysses Club rode over to present us with a $1000 cheque and we raised $4000, but for us the day is about opening our doors and reminding people that we are here in the community for them.”
