FRIDAY

  • The Motueka Starlight Christmas Parade and Night Market are on tonight. The parade starts at 7pm and runs along High St while the night market is on at Decks Reserve from 5-9pm. Bring the family along to the parade, enjoy the entertainment, have some dinner and shop for Christmas presents from local craftspeople, artists, and makers of delicious delicacies.
  • Want a glimpse of 7 Days when there are no cameras, censors or editors? 7 Days Live is at the Trafalgar Centre tonight, the show starts with a burst of quick fire standup comedy, then it’s a no-holds-barred game of uncut 7 Days. Doors open 7pm with the show starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Ticketek 0800 842 538.
  • Once again Nelson Cathedral is home to the annual Festival of Christmas Trees. With each tree individually designed and decorated by a number of community groups and organisations, the festival is open to everyone for a gold coin entry from 9am to 6pm, November 30 – January 6.

 

SATURDAY

  • Nelson Tasman cyclist’s favorite roads have been linked together to create the Abel Tasman Cycle Challenge event. The race has team, duo, and solo entrants including Olympic rower Hamish Bond and Nelson’s Tour de France cyclist George Bennett. All cyclists are welcome to enter the inaugural event which will kick off from Saxton Feild at 6.30am, Click Here for more information.
  • Motorcyclists from Nelson, Blenheim, the West Coast and even Canterbury will decorate themselves and their machines for the Ulysses Nelson Toy Run on Saturday. Featuring a variety of motorbikes and scooters adorned with various gifts for distribution to local kids by the Salvation Army, riders will assemble at the Papps Car Park in Cambridge Street, at 10am where public can donate their gifts and check out the machines before the convoy leave at 11am. The bikes will make their way into Nelson, through Richmond’s town centre and Stoke, before travelling down Trafalgar Street in Nelson to finish at the car park at the rear of Trafalgar Park. The Salvation Army follows the convoy to collect toys/donations from people on the roadside.
  • Marching Teams from around the South Island have come together over two days to compete for the South Island Marching Championship Title at Trafalgar Centre. The championship begins at 11.30am on Saturday, 9am on Sunday and entry is a gold coin donation for those keen to spectate.
  • Nelson Community Toy Library are inviting everyone to their annual Family Fun Day this Saturday from 9.30-11am. Come on down for morning tea, raffle, a flea market, and entertainment for the kids including a bouncy castle, Flossie the Balloon Lady, cupcake decorating, free tattoos and the Sun City Ukuleles.
  • The last Comedy Slam Nelson for the year is here, so head to Paradox from 8pm tomorrow night to banish those winter blues with a good belly laugh. MC FROG will host the night with the audience picking the winner who will receive $100. Entry is $5 at the door but for those that enter the competition, it is free along with a complimentary drink.
  • The South Island Stockcar Championship is on at the Nelson Speedway from 6pm this Saturday. Gates open at 5pm, tickets are available at the Richmond Mall or on site on the night and the Hydraulink War of the Wings sprintcars will also provide some thrills.

 

SUNDAY

  • Nelson Stand up paddle board club are running a club event at 8am, Tahunanui beach. Come learn about local weather and tides, buoyancy aids and their use, rescues and much more.  Only $10 for 2 hours of information sharing to help you, and others, keep safe in the water this summer.   • The Mapua Makers Market, a contemporary craft fair featuring unique and affordable handcrafted items is on at the Mapua Community Hall from 10am-3pm on Sunday. Alongside the usual variety of stalls and the Epicurean Artisan Corner, the December market will feature products perfect for Christmas presents.
  • The Motueka A&P Show is on from 10am-5pm at Marchwood Park with all the usual A & P exhibits and competitions as well as a Wearable Creations parade at 2pm. Entry is $5, with children in car seats free.
  • Head to Stoke Memorial Hall from 10am-4pm for the Pretty Crafty Christmas Market. The market features a range of clothing, art, homewares, jewellery, furniture, concrete planters, skin care and 3D Hand and Feet Castings from local crafts people just in time for your Christmas Shopping.
  • Tasman Bay Kayak Racing Club is running the annual Queen and King of the bay Ocean Paddle Race. All are welcome to the race which kicks into gear from Kaiteriteri Beach at 1pm. Click Here for more information.
  • The Nelson City Santa Parade and Christmas Carnivale are spreading the festive spirit this Sunday. The parade will begin at 1pm from the bottom of The Nelson Cathedral steps and head down Trafalgar Street to the Trafalgar Park. At the Park, the Christmas Carnivale starts at 2pm and provides everyone with a chance to meet Santa Claus and enjoy the entertainment and refreshments.
