Nelson tourism spend at $334M

The latest Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today show that tourism spend for Nelson is estimated to be $334 million for the year to October 2016, up 16 per cent compared with the year to October 2015.

MBIE Manager of Sector Trends Peter Ellis says international visitors spent $112 million and domestic tourists spent $222 million, both figures up 16 per cent compared with the year to October 2015.

However, when it comes to the monthly expenditure, Peter says, “tourism spend in Nelson for the month of October 2016 is down three per cent compared with the month of October 2015.”

This data does not include any of the impacts from the North Canterbury earthquake on November 14, that information will be available in January as part of the Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates for November 2016.
