Thunder lose in Mainland teams final

The Tasman Thunder made their first appearance of the season in Christchurch last weekend, winning through to the final of the Mainland Stockcar Teams Championships but going down to the KB’s Indians in a closely fought race.

Tasman had a win against The Eastern States Titans, picking up near maximum points, before losing to the KB Cowboys but getting enough points make the final.

Keightley Teece picked up hit of the night while Michael Paynter was strong both on attack and defence.

Phil Krammer took a huge hit in the first heat, ending his night, but it was a good hit out against the KB teams that they will learn from heading to the nationals in Gisborne later in the season.

The Hanmer Holiday Homes South Island Superstock Series completed round two, with Nelson’s Shane Harwood winning the feature and cutting down the lead of Brett Nicholls going into the final round in Nelson in February.

Only eight points separate the two Nelson cars with Jamie Hamilton 9c holding third. It promises to be a spectacular finale to the series.

This week the Nelson Tigers are in action against the Palmerston North Panthers in Superstock teams action, on Saturday night.

The Panthers have probably four of the quickest cars in the country turning up, so it promises to be a huge meeting at Milestone Homes Top of the South Speedway this Saturday.
