Summer weather is on its way, which means barbeques, backyard cricket, baches and the start of the summer roadworks season.
Crews will be busy doing repairs, resurfacing and maintenance work on Nelson and Tasman’s state highways between October and May while the weather is warm.
Over $2 million will be invested in maintaining highways around Nelson and Tasman this summer, according to NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Regional Network Performance Manager, Mark Owen.
Mark says a number of sites will have work done however some of the larger and more complicated jobs include the Edens Rd/Aniseed Valley Rd Intersection, Gentle Annie and Main Rd Riwaka.
Scheduled to start in December, the intersection of State Highway 6, Edens Rd/Aniseed Valley Rd will be resurfaced as part of on-going maintenance. This work will be carried out between 9am – 3pm with speed restrictions and two lanes remaining open.
As part of last year’s ongoing maintenance, Gentle Annie, along State Highway 6 will receive a second sealing coat between Glenduan and Hira sometime between late February and early March 2017. Traffic management will be in place and we will keep two lanes open.
The resurfacing of Main Rd, Riwaka is planned start December 2016 and will take place over three days between 8am and 3pm. Drivers can expect delays of up to five minutes when travelling though this area due to stop/go traffic management.
“We appreciate that summer brings more visitors to the Nelson and Tasman regions, and road works can inconvenience people,” says Mark.
“Dust, noise, speed restrictions and detours can be frustrating, which is why we’re giving people as much notice and information as we can so they can plan ahead for their journeys.”
Traffic management will be in place, including temporary speed restrictions from time to time, so drivers should plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
