Police search for alleged sexual offender

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating two men in relation to an alleged sexual assault near the Centre of New Zealand Walkway in Nelson on Monday night.

At approximately 8.00pm on Monday, a woman was walking up the Centre of New Zealand Walkway when she was confronted by two men, one of whom assaulted her.

After a brief struggle, the woman managed to push the man away and escape.

When walking home later that night the woman was confronted again by the same man on Milton Street, near the Halifax Street East corner.

After attempting to assault her again, he ran off and Police have been unable to locate him.

The women was uninjured in this assault but is understandably shaken by the incident.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a Middle-Eastern man around 20 years old and approximately 160-170cm near the walkway or around the Milton Street area between 8pm – 9.30pm Monday night.

He has dark hair and a beard, and was wearing a white T-shirt and dark trousers.
