Local kids weren’t going to let the cloudy sky stop them from kicking off summer with a splash at Nayland Pool’s open day on Saturday.
Nayland Primary student Xanthe Zittersteijn says she has been looking forward to the pool opening all winter.
“We come here heaps and I love jumping off the diving board so it’s really cool that its open again.”
And Xanthe wasn’t alone, with well over 100 people coming through in the morning for what was one of the pool’s biggest ever opening days.
After being named CLM’s outdoor pool of the year, Facility manager Dave McKenzie says Nayland has undergone a few changes including a complete repaint, a new slide, new lane ropes and an upgraded water plant.
“The customers might not see the new water system but they should feel the improvement with warmer, cleaner pools which is great.”
Dave says getting the pool ready was a lot of work but says it is great to be open.
“It’s been a lot of late nights and early mornings but it’s really exciting to be open, I love opening, it means the start of summer is finally here.
“It’s great to have so many people here and it’s only going to pick up from here on in.”
