Students from Richmond’s Maori immersion school and children from Kiwi Explorers pre-school entertained staff and shoppers  at the KMart Wishing Tree appeal launch at the Richmond store on Wednesday.

The annual appeal, which is in its 23rd year in New Zealand and third year in Nelson, is the  largest and longest-running Christmas appeal in the country. It aims to collect Christmas gifts for families around the district  which will be distributed by the Salvation Army.

Students from students from the Maori immersion school, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Tuia te Matangi, performed a waiata while children from Kiwi Explorers pre-school sang Christmas carols in front of parents, teachers, KMart staff and shoppers.

People can donate gifts or make a monetary donation to the Wishing Tree appeal in store or donate to the appeal on-line at kmart.co.nz/wishingtree

The appeal closes on Christmas Eve.
