Next week the Nelson/Tasman region will play host to the Governor-General, The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy and Sir David Gascoigne, with innovation, technology and environmental initiatives all featuring in their itinerary.
The three-day visit is the first regional visit by Dame Patsy since she began her term at the end of August. Her aim is to visit every region of New Zealand before her term finishes in 2021.
Their first engagement will be a dinner with both mayors, Rachel Reese and Richard Kempthorne, before a visit to the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology where they will view the Innovation Hub and Maritime simulator. Their trip also includes a tour of the newly completed Suter Art Gallery, a reception for local winegrowers at Greenhough Vineyard, a meeting with Pic’s Peanut Butter and a visit to Cawthron Institute. Dame Patsy and Sir David will also host a community reception for invited guests from local community organisations and businesses at The Boathouse on Thursday night.
Nayland College will also play host to the pair before they take their visit to Motueka where they will be welcomed onto Te Awhina Marae. Their final event will be a boat trip to Anchorage and a walk along the Abel Tasman Coastal Track.
