A burst of heavy rain just as the cars were warming up put a halt to last week’s racing and Coca-Cola fireworks display at Milestone Homes Top of the South Speedway.

The fireworks have now been added  to the Hanmer Holiday Homes South Island Super Stock Series meeting, so this week it will be twice the bang for your buck.

New Zealand champion Shane Harwood will be out to defend his series title against the South Island’s top drivers. Two dozen drivers will be contesting the HHH series with round two in Christchurch next week and the finals back here on Febuary 11.

Jason Fletcher 5c of Hanmer Holiday Homes will be amongst the drivers competing for the title, a regular visitor and former Nelsonian, he will be keen to put on a good showing,
Jamie Hamilton 9c will be one to watch, winning all three opening races at Woodford Glen.
Brett Nicholls 48n has the Trackman Trophy already in the cabinet this year.

It is one of the biggest fields of super stocks we will see this year.

The Tasman Thunder Stock car team start their journey towards the New Zealand teams title with the Eve of Destruction in Blenheim, before heading to Christchurch to compete in the Mainland Teams Championships a week later.

It will be a stern test with a few drivers missing from last year’s group. Check out the club website and facebook page for racing information and updates.
