Woman flown to hospital after freak accident

A Nelson woman involved in a freak accident was flown to hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter on Saturday night.

The 57-year-old Nelson woman was working on board a launch that was moored in Homestead Bay, Port Ligar, when she was struck on the head by a wind-blown hatch cover.

She was initially cared for by other crew on the vessel until the arrival of the rescue helicopter, at which time she was assessed and treated by the Intensive Care Paramedic before being flown to Nelson Hospital in a moderate condition.

A hospital spokesperson says the local woman has since been discharged.
