Stage Challenge and J Rock are returning to Nelson for the nationwide performing arts competition’s 25th year.

The return of Stage Challenge and J Rock has been a long-anticipated wait for Nelson students, as 2013 was the last time New Zealand’s largest youth performing arts event was in town.

The competition will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 and excitement’s been steadily brewing throughout the region as the recently refurbished Trafalgar Centre has blossomed into a slick sporting and performance hub.

Event Coordinator Shanell Bielawa says she is especially excited to return to Nelson.

“The Nelson area is known as an upbeat and vibrant community. Nelson’s students have expressed these qualities through performance in previous years and are qualities I know will be evident in 2017 and beyond.

“The smaller towns and schools always bring a vast amount of creativity and expression, which is why I can’t wait to see what Nelson has to offer”.

A return to the region couldn’t come at a better time as Stage Challenge will not only be celebrating their 25th year in 2017, but one of the very first Stage Challenge events was staged in Nelson.
