About 10,000 homes from Richmond South through to Belgrove including Brightwater and Wakefield were without power for just over an hour on Friday after fault in the main 33KV line into the Tasman district.
Network Tasman’s Murray Hendrickson says they haven’t found the cause of the fault but have managed to restore power to most properties by “reconfiguring the network to go around the fault”.
Murray says the power outage started at about 1.30pm and they had “all hands to the pump” working on substations at Hope and Brightwater to restore the power.
Network Tasman posted on their website that “we regret any inconvenience that unexpected power interruptions may cause and will restore the power supply as quickly as possible.
“As power may be restored at any time, all lines, electrical installations, and wiring must be treated as live at all times and precautions should be taken regarding appliances and sensitive electronic equipment.”
The power was also out along the Motueka Valley Highway from Tapawera to Woodstock including Sunday Creek Road, Forest Creek Rd, Hinetai Rd, Newport Rd and Upper Stanley Brook Road and is not expected to be repaired until 4pm.
