Police were called after a man stabbed a dog to death after it attacked his wife.

Poachers apprehended near Wakefield

Springtime offers more opportunities for criminal offending in the region’s  forestry areas and last fortnight, two men were apprehended whilst poaching in a forest near Wakefield.

“One of those males is being prosecuted and the other is being warned,” says Sergeant Rob Crawford.

Unlawful Hunting has a sentence of $100,000 fine and 2 years imprisonment. “The offender also has the possibility of forfeiture of all of the hunting gear including the dogs and vehicle.”

In the past, the rural sector has suffered loss of stock and horses as a result of indiscriminate poaching activity and it is a very dangerous activity to be involved in says Rob.
