The Tasman Makos have charged over the top of Taranaki to win 25-20 in their Mitre 10 Cup rugby match at Trafalgar Park this afternoon.

The Makos were sluggish in the first 40 and starved of possession but turned that around in the second half.

The Makos were forced to rely on the boot of Marty Banks to keep them in touch during the first half.

Taranaki’s returning All Blacks midfielder Seta Tamanivalu crashed over for a try in the first half to give his team a 13-6 halftime advantage.

Marty’s fourth penalty was cancelled out by Taranaki’s second try through winger Beaudein Waaka.

The Makos crashed over from a line out through Kieron Fonotia which cut the margin to 20-19.

Marty’s fifth penalty earned the Makos an unlikely lead as they controlled possession and territory in the second half and it was a lead they did not let slip.
