Moutere man dies after accident in Brightwater

Police have confirmed that the local hit by a logging truck yesterday passed away overnight.

Senior Sergeant Grant Andrews says the Upper Moutere local passed away in hospital last night following the “terrible tragedy.”

The 83-year-old male that was hit by the unladen logging truck at the entrance way to Brightwater Motors on Ellis Street at 3pm yesterday has been identified as Upper Moutere local, Robert James Murray.

The man’s family has been contacted and Victim Support has been following up with the people at the garage, the driver and the family of the man who died.

“It’s a tragic crash that is being investigated by the serious crash investigators,” says Grant. “There will be an ongoing investigation to determine if there is any culpability.

The vehicle has been taken away for forensic and mechanical examination and Grant says the driver was “very shaken.”
