Nelson tourism spend surpasses 3mil

Nelson tourism is worth over $3mil according to data released by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) today.

The Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates report show that tourism spend for Nelson is estimated to be $302 million for the year to July 2016, up 11 per cent compared with the year to July 2015.

MBIE Manager of Sector Trends Peter Ellis says that of this tourism spend in the year to  Jul 2016, international visitors spent $100 million (up 10 per cent compared with the year to July 2015), and domestic tourists spent $202 million (up 12 per cent) in that period.

“When it comes to the monthly expenditure, tourism spend in Nelson for the month of July 2016 is up 20 per cent compared with the month of July 2015,” says Peter.

The Monthly Regional Tourism Estimates measure the expenditure of international and domestic visitors based on administrative transaction data.
