Kelsey Smith scores twice in Black Sticks win

The New Zealand women’s Black Sticks got their Olympic campaign back on track overnight (NZ time), thanks in large part to Nelson’s Kelsey Smith.

The former Waimea College pupil scored twice on her 22nd birthday as New Zealand bounced back from a loss to Germany with a 2-1 win.

Kelsey got on the end of a Kayla Whitelock penalty corner to open the scoring in the first half before a stroke with 10 minutes remaining made the game safe, in a match the Kiwis dominated.

New Zealand next face the Netherlands on Saturday (NZ time).
