Around 500 volunteers are out on the region’s streets for Daffodil Day.
Stalls dot the main streets for those who wish to donate to the Cancer Society and receive the silk flower that has become an iconic symbol in fighting a disease that touches most people.
Nelson Lioness Mary Goodman is parked up in front of Nelson City Council along Trafalgar street and says, “there must be volunteers at every corner.”
“Everyone knows someone who’s had to fight cancer and that’s why we do it, I must’ve been sitting at this stall for about twenty years now.”
The stalls will be up all day for people who are keen to pop down and show their support.
