  • Waimea College’s final performances of Thoroughly Modern Millie are on today at Waimea College at 2pm and 7.30pm. Young Millie Dillmount moves to New York city in search of a new life for herself. Her plan is simple: find a job as a secretary for an eligible bachelor, and then marry him but things don’t exactly go to plan.   • The Crowe Horwath Charity Ball is back raising money for the Cancer Society Nelson. Enjoy fabulous food, wine and entertainment and bid for exciting auction items at the Rutherford Hotel from 6pm.   • Enjoy a night of fun and festivities the Scottish way, at the Celtic Pipe Band’s Fundraising Ceilidh. The annual Scottish dance party is on tonight at Stoke Memorial Hall from 7-11pm with entertainment from the Celtic Pipe Band of Stoke, Highland and Irish Dancers from the A-Star Academy and a chance to get your knees up with an instructed Highland Fling. Dress code is informal to full highland dress, a bar and raffles are on offer and tickets are $15 per adult, $5 per -18 year old child and children under ten get in free.   • The Riwaka School Midwinter Festival is on from 9.30am at Kaiteriteri Beach. Come on over and brave the icy water in a dazzling costume, give the big dig a go, buy a duck for the duck race or just have day out with the family. Midwinter swim registration open at 9.30am and those braving the plunge will enter the water at 12.30am. The ducks will enter the water at 10.30am. Food, drinks, spot prizes, a best dressed swimmer competition and family entertainment are all on offer.
  • Head to Brightwater School between 1.30am and 2.30pm for the Brightwater School Winter Gala/Auction. Raffles and a huge array of items are up for grabs in the silent auction, homemade cakes, real coffee and delicious winter food will warm you up and there’s plenty for the kids including lazer tag, climbing wall, bouncy castles, pony rides, live music and a chocolate wheel.
