Metservice have issued a severe weather watch for Nelson, Buller and Marlborough, warning of strong southeast gales over most of central New Zealand.

“A large low pressure system over the Tasman Sea moves slowly across northern New Zealand during the next few days, spreading a band of rain and southeast gales over the North Island and upper South Island.”

The expected southeast gales may become severe with damaging gusts from Friday morning through until early Saturday morning.

Metservice are forecasting brief periods of rain and strong gusts of up to 22 knots tomorrow.
