Metservice have upgraded Nelson’s severe weather watch to a warning, predicting heavy rain and severe northwest gales.
Information released by MetService earlier this morning also placed the Richmond and Bryant Ranges on a warning.
“A very active front is moving eastwards across New Zealand today (Wednesday) and Thursday.”
Heavy rain is setting in over Buller and northwest Nelson, people should expect rising rivers and streams, surface flooding and slips.
“In the 21 hours from midday Wednesday to 9am Thursday, expect 100 to 150mm to accumulate. Peak intensities of 20 to 30mm per hour in thunderstorms.”
Althought Richmond and Bryant Range have only recently been added to the warning list, heavy rain is expected this afternoon.
“In the 15 hours from 3pm Wednesday to 6am Thursday, expect 70 to 100mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities of 20-30mm pr hour.”
