Severe weather watch over Nelson


Buckle down the hatches, Metservice have issued a severe weather watch over Nelson.

The watch warns of severe southwest gales about Nelson, particularly Golden Bay and near Motueka from tonight.

“A front has moved east over the North Island followed by southwesterlies.

“Another front crosses the country today, followed by a strong southwest flow with gales likely in parts of Nelson, Otago and Southland.”

The southwesterlies are forecast to ease Thursday morning however, people are encouraged to stay up to date with the latest forecasts in case the watch is upgraded to a warning.

The watch, which was issued earlier this morning, is expected to be updated tonight.
