The snow is here and to the delight of many, Rainbow Ski Area is set to open tomorrow.

Powder craving snowboarders and skiers will finally be able to hit the slopes after a dumping of 20cm of fresh snow on Wednesday night.

The opening of the St Arnaud ski field was originally set for July 9, but was postponed after a snow melting combination of warm fronts and rain.

Rainbow Ski FieldPeople heading up to the ski field on Saturday can expect a conservative 20-25 cm says Rainbow Ski Area’s Matt Alcock.

“We had a lot of snow overnight and at the moment there’s a fair bit of wind which is shifting and catching in the snow fences and gullies, it’s all filling in nicely.”

With more snow due, cold temperatures and wind up the field, Matt says its blowing a pretty wintery scene.

“It’s looking really great, providing that mother nature plays ball and she allows us, we’ll open 9am Saturday morning.”

The slopes are a hive of activity with staff clearing the roads, ensuring systems are up and running, getting the lifts ready and getting the trails packed down and groomed.

“We’re all looking forward to opening and with a bit of sunshine, it should be a good one,” says Matt.

Torpedo 7 will be up the field with free giveaways on Saturday and the first people to ride the lifts will get a free Rainbow Ski tee.
