A last-gasp penalty goal ensured Nelson College would keep the Moascar Cup with a 27-25 victory over a determined St Thomas’ of Canterbury in secondary school rugby action today.
The lead changed four times in the second half until Nelson College captain William Havili converted an injury time penalty from 15m out in the middle of the field.
Nelson College trailed by one point at halftime and could not shake the visitors off who were strong in the forwards and hard to keep out from short range of the try line.
Waimea Combined beat Lincoln High School 19-12 which is another big away win.
The two Nelson teams will meet on July 27.
