Nelson College defend Moascar Cup

Nelson College secured its first defense of the Moascar Cup with a convincing 25-14 victory over St Andrews College at Trafalgar Park today.

The home team looked like the better team throughout but failed to land the killer blow against a plucky St Andrews team that was looking to win the Cup back after losing it two weeks ago to Timaru Boys’High School.

Nelson College’s slick backline play earned them two tries in the first 10 minutes through Archie Smith and Karl Ratcliffe but the visitors fought back gamely and had the better of the territory and possession stakes for the rest of the game.

Nelson’s defence was solid in the second half, their one-on-one defence and strong line-speed a feature in helping them control the game.

Nelson held a 19-11 advantage at halftime.
