It’s good news for people struggling to find work, the number of job vacancies are on the rise according to the latest studies.

Nelson Tasman saw one of the biggest job vacancy increases across the country in April with a 1.6 per cent rise noted in the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Jobs Online report.

The local results echo a nation-wide trend with job vacancies increasing by 0.6 per cent in April 2016, and 7.7 per cent over the year.

Occupation groups with the largest increase was labourers, rising 3.3 per cent, while sales occupations saw the largest decrease, dipping 1.2 per cent.

MBIE’s Labour Market Trends Manager, David Paterson says, “The increase in the vacancies is consistent with employment growth of 1.2 per cent in the March 2016 quarter.”
