Brothers produce dominant run of victories

Three brothers have won the Garin cross-country title for a combined nine years in a row.

Year 13 pupil Jared Lautenslager won the Garin College senior cross-country title for the third straight year earlier this month

His brother Jeff won three straight from 2011 to 2013.

Their older brother, Craig, won three straight from 2008-10.

Jared, who finished the 4.6km race in 14min 19 sec, won the Garin junior race in Year 9 and 10 to make this his fifth straight victory in school cross country.

Jared will be one of the favourites in the senior boys race at the Tasman Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships on May 25.

Craig Lautenslager, who will enter his last year at the University of Texas at Arlington in August, currently is ranked first in New Zealand in the 10,000 metres. Jeff Lautenslager, who has just finished his second year at Boise State University, will compete in the 1500m at the NCAA West Regionals in Lawrence, Kansas on May 26.
