Bee sting precedes fatal crash


The driver of a milk tanker which rolled near Glenhope on the Kohatu-Kawatiri Highway on Tuesday afternoon died at the scene.

Police told the New Zealand Herald newspaper that it appeared the driver was stung by a bee moments before the accident. However, no official cause had been identified as the crash scene was being investigated the serious crash unit as of Tuesday afternoon.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The incident occurred just after 2.30pm, closing a section of the Kohatu-Kawatiri Highway on State Highway 6 until the tanker was removed just before midnight on Tuesday.
