Victory ready to set world record

The Victory Community Centre are all set to set the Guinness World Record for the largest poi spinning group.

People have gathered at Victory Square to put the Victory Community Centre on the map and spin some poi.

Registration opened at 3.30 today, people will be given their grid spots at 4.45pm and the spinning will begin at 5pm.

250 people are needed to set the new record but the centre are confident they’ll get more.

Nicola Bare, programme and facilities manager at the centre, says the idea came about when they were discussing how they could get some more exposure for the centre, and setting a world record attempt for poi spinning seemed like a perfect fit.

“We want everyone to know who we are, where we are and we want it to be a community event,” she says.

Around 500 poi have been made at workshops over the past month, and will be sold for $2 if if people don’t have their own.

The record is free entry (Koha appreciated), corporate teams of up to 10 people are $90.
