Nelsonians upstaged at Loop the Lake

Christchurch’s Chris Dunell took out the 2016 Loop the Lake Trail Run at Lake Rotoiti on Saturday.

The Cantabrian completed the 25km anti-clockwise event around the lake in 1hour 42 minutes and 45 seconds.

He was more than two minutes clear of Mapua’s Dave Keen who is a perennial front runner in the event, having finished fifth and fourth overall the previous two years.

Trevor Voyce was the first Nelsonian home in fourth overall, two and- a-half minutes off the pace.

The first woman home was Palmerston North’s Klaartje Van Schie in 1 hour 59 minutes and five seconds.

Florence Van Dyke was the first Nelson woman to finish and fifth overall, seven minutes behind the winner.

The event first started 20 years ago and is limited to just 400 competitors to limit the impact on the Nelson Lakes National Park area.
