Injury time goal earns Nelson Suburbs 2-1 win

A 10-man Nelson Suburbs team scored a last-gasp 2-1 win over Halswell United in their Mainland Premier League match at Saxton Field, today.

The home team was reduced to 10-men in the opening minutes after goal keeper and captain Corey Turipa was deemed to have deliberately handled the ball outside his penalty area.

The send off saw defender Daniel Allan go in goal and he made a couple of nice plays including a near post save and being brave enough to take the ball away from the feet of a Halswell attacker.

It did not seem to matter much though as Nelson Suburbs created more goal scoring chances throughout the game but only managed to score once through Ryan Stewart.

Halswell got back on level terms in the second half through Anton McMahon as the game began to open up.

It wasn’t until a nice run down the left wing  from Atkin Kaua  that the deadlock was broken.

His low cross found an unmarked Ben Wright, who had early blown a easy chance, for a comfortable finish from point-blank range.

Turipa will be suspended for Nelson Suburb’s game against Coastal Sprirt so it will be a short turnaround to see who replaces him
