Phill Jones, Raymond Cowels III and cheeseburgers all got the biggest cheer of the night as the Mike Pero Nelson Giants out-classed the Hawkes Bay Hawks at the Trafalgar Centre tonight.
For Jones it was for a long range three, for Cowels it was for a huge dunk.
The cheers for cheeseburgers were because the Giants scored more than 100 points, meaning everyone in the crowd got a free cheeseburger from McDonalds.
The big 107-83 win for the Giants was secured during a strong third quarter when the Giants pulled away from the visitors.
The Giants entered the game on top of the National Basketball League competition ladder, with the Hawks stuck at the very bottom.
For Nelson, Cowels was the standout scoring 34 of his team’s points. Finn Delany and captain Sam Dempster both scored 14 with Delany in particular having a very strong game.
The Giants next home game is next Saturday night, April 16, when they host the Waitakere Super City Rangers.
