What’s in a name? Like many of the roads around the region, Nelson’s main streets are a salute to the past.

In a region named after the British naval commander Horatio Nelson, the corner of Trafalgar and Hardy Street is a blaring nod to the commander.

Trafalgar Street was named after the 1805 battle in which Nelson died after making one final request, ‘Kiss me Hardy’.

Hardy St was named after Thomas Hardy, one Nelson’s of his close friends and his flag-captain.
